6 dead, 15 injured in car accident north of Cairo

Six people are left dead and fifteen injured after a passenger van collided with a brick-loaded truck on Monday morning along the Cairo-Sharm al-Sheikh road.

Preliminary investigations revealed the accident, which occurred at the Wells of Moses area in Suez, was a result of excessive speed.

Those injured suffered breaks, concussions and bruises and were taken to the public hospital in Suez.

Security authorities restored the flow of traffic after removing the accident’s remnants from the road.

Traffic accidents rank second in mortality causes in Egypt annually. Experts estimate the daily death toll to be 30. A recent government report revealed 18 Egyptians died daily in 2009 due to traffic accidents. Surging rates are usually attributed to poor road quality, violations of traffic rules, and drug addiction among truckers.
