The Interior Ministry announced in a statement Tuesday morning that 612 passengers, including 229 Egyptians and 383 Libyans, crossed through the Salloum land crossing on the Egypt-Libya border on Monday after it had been reopened.

One-hundred and one trucks also crossed through the land port, according to the statement.

Egypt's prime minister issued a decision on Monday to reopen the Salloum crossing, which has been closed and reopened several times since unrest began in Libya in 2011.

Libya has witnessed a rising insurgency via different rebel groups and militias since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
