9 dead, 20 injured in Syria cafe terror attack

The Syrian Ministry of Interior has disclosed the details of a terrorist bombing that targeted a cafe on Al-Nasr Street, near the Palace of Justice in central Damascus, resulting in multiple casualties.

According to a ministry statement, “a terrorist bombing occurred at approximately 3:00 PM on Thursday, targeting a cafe on Al-Nasr Street, located roughly 70 meters west of the Palace of Justice.”

Casualties and damage

The statement confirmed that the attack resulted in the deaths of nine civilians and injuries to 20 others, alongside severe material damage to the blast site and surrounding properties.

The ministry added, “Preliminary investigations and procedures revealed that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately one kilogram, packed with metal shrapnel, which led to severe injuries and widespread destruction at the scene.”

Security response and investigation

Immediately following the blast, security forces established a cordon. Engineering teams and canine units conducted thorough sweeping operations to ensure the area was clear of secondary devices or additional threats.

Forensic teams began processing the crime scene immediately, collecting evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, and gathering eyewitness testimonies from individuals in the vicinity to uncover the circumstances of the bombing and identify the perpetrators and orchestrators behind it.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized that “investigations remain ongoing, and any updates or findings will be announced through official channels as soon as they are verified.”
