Gas pipeline in Sinai explodes

Unknown assailants attacked and caused the explosion of a gas pipeline on Sunday near the airport south of the city of Arish, in North Sinai.

This marked the sixteenth pipeline explosion in recent times.

A police vehicle combed the area in search of the criminals.

The last pipeline blast occurred on 22 July 2012. It was the first and last such explosion during the rule of toppled President Mohamed Morsy.

The pipelines, which supply gas to Jordan, have been attacked more than ten times since former president Hosni Mubarak was ousted in 2011 during the Arab Spring uprisings.
