CAPMAS: Egypt sees 5.5% annual tourists rise in January

Egypt received 677,500 tourists in January 2015, 5.5 percent more than the 642,200 it received in the same period last year, according to the central agency for public mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
 
In the monthly bulletin on tourism estimates issued on Wednesday, CAPMAS said that the highest number of tourists came from Eastern Europe at a rate of 39.5 percent, compared to the lowest number coming from the Middle East at 16 percent, the bulletin added. The number of tourists coming from Arab countries reached 128,800 in 2015, compared to 101,800 in 2014.
 
However, a decrease in number of nights spent by tourists was marked, reaching 6.8 million nights in 2015, compared to 8.9 million nights to January 2014,the estimates showed.
 
Average of accommodation of tourists in January 2015 reached 9.2 nights, compared to 13 nights during the same period in 2014.
