17 injured in multi-vehicle accident at Marsa Matrouh

A traffic accident occurred on the Marsa Matrouh-Dabaa International Road at an area known as Sawani Gaber.

Seventeen injuries were reported so far and the complete destruction of one car by fire, in addition to wrecking a microbus and four private cars.

The Matrouh emergency police were notified of the accident on the Dabaa-Matrouh road. Ambulance teams immediately went to the Sawani Gaber area in Dabaa to transport the injured to Dabaa Central Hospital for treatment.

The full circumstances of the accident have not yet been revealed, but eyewitnesses at the scene told Al-Masry Al-Youm that there was a police checkpoint on the international road in the Sawani Gaber area.

Cars were lined up behind each other, waiting to be inspected at the checkpoint, when a speeding car from behind crashed into the checkpoint and the waiting vehicles.

This led to a car being completely consumed by fire and a microbus and four private cars being smashed, according to the initial reports of the accident.
