Egypt’s ambassador to Japan praises strength of Egyptian-Japanese relations

Egypt’s Ambassador to Japan, Ragy al-Etreby praised the strength of bilateral relations between Cairo and Tokyo, which have witnessed a qualitative leap since the announcement of the strategic partnership in 2023.

He noted that this framework forms the basis of enhancing coordination on various international issues, among them respecting international law, supporting peace and security, and strengthening the capacities of the multilateral system.

These are all fundamental principles underpinning the ties between Cairo and Tokyo, he said.

This came during the ambassador’s meeting with Ambassador Kazuhiko Nakamura, Assistant Foreign Minister and Legal Adviser of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as part of the growing dynamism in Egyptian–Japanese relations and the embassy’s keenness to expand channels of dialogue between the two foreign ministries.

For his part, the Japanese Assistant Foreign Minister reviewed the outcomes of his recent consultations in Cairo with Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs and Treaties, noting that they reflected significant convergence in the two countries’ views on a number of important legal issues that require continued coordination.

The Egyptian ambassador welcomed the continuation of this mechanism, whether in Tokyo or Cairo, as it reflects a shared resolve to support international legal dialogue.

The meeting also addressed developments in the Middle East.

Al-Etreby outlined Egypt’s intensive efforts to sustain the ceasefire in Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid, and prepare for the upcoming reconstruction conference that Egypt will soon host, efforts grounded in the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit.

He reiterated Egypt’s constant appreciation for Japan’s active and positive role in the region.
