Egypt targets 100 new Mediterranean gas wells in historic exploration initiative

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced the commencement of an extensive exploratory drilling campaign in the Mediterranean by Arkhouse Energy, the strategic joint venture between the UAE’s ADNOC and the UK’s BP.

In a clear sign of operational readiness, the world-class drillship “Valaris DS-12” has departed from the Port of Las Palmas, Spain, and is currently en route to Egyptian waters. The vessel is scheduled to begin work on the high-priority “Atoll West” and “Nofret” wells.

The mobilization follows a rigorous inspection by company leadership to ensure technical system readiness, adherence to stringent safety protocols, and the proficiency of the specialized crews managing these complex deepwater operations.

Arkhouse Energy has identified Egypt as its primary investment priority, describing the nation as the “cornerstone” and strategic launchpad for its activities across the East Mediterranean.

The company is pursuing a five-year expansion roadmap aimed at doubling current production levels to bolster Egypt’s national energy resources, satisfy domestic demand, and support regional export ambitions.

This exploration campaign is a key pillar of the Egyptian petroleum sector’s broader 2026 roadmap, which targets the drilling of over 100 exploratory oil and gas wells in partnership with leading global energy firms.

These developments underscore international confidence in Egypt’s investment climate and the untapped potential of Mediterranean sedimentary basins, signaling a transformative phase for the region’s energy landscape.
