Local Development Minister, Cairo Governor review waste management system

Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad and Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber reviewed on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the implementation of Cairo’s integrated municipal solid waste management system, including waste collection, transportation, treatment, and environmentally safe disposal, as well as the latest developments at the Integrated Solid Waste Recycling City in 10th of Ramadan City.

During the meeting, Awad reaffirmed the state’s commitment to developing the waste management system in line with the directives of the political leadership to improve environmental quality, upgrade sanitation services, maximize investment returns, and support Egypt’s transition toward a green economy.

The meeting reviewed the performance of companies operating across Cairo, with the system currently serving approximately 11.5 million residents. Officials highlighted improvements in waste collection, street cleaning, equipment maintenance, environmental awareness campaigns, and responses to citizens’ complaints.

The two sides also discussed measures to further enhance service quality, including improving waste collection in some areas, upgrading transfer stations, combating illegal waste sorting, and ensuring companies comply with operational and environmental standards.
