The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) sent a legal memorandum to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee to respond to inquiries regarding the events that occurred during the Egypt-Argentina World Cup match, RT reported on Sunday.
According to Egyptian sources, the memorandum – comprising approximately 90 pages – includes legal responses and clarifications on all points and inquiries that FIFA requested the Egyptian side to address following the events of the match.
The memorandum also covers the positions of the Egyptian national team’s head coach, Hossam Hassan, the team’s manager, Ibrahim Hassan, and player Mostafa Zico, amidst controversy surrounding the incidents that took place during the game.
The memorandum was prepared and legally drafted under the supervision of international lawyer Mohamed el-Toubgy, in coordination with the EFA’s legal committee, and includes the arguments and documents upon which the Egyptian side based its defense.
According to sources, EFA submitted legal responses to all inquiries received from FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, confirming that all requirements set by the international federation were met before the deadline.
Egypt’s defense
In its memorandum, Egypt asserted that Hossam Hassan, Ibrahim Hassan, and Mostafa Zico did not commit any misconduct warranting sanctions.
It explained that the actions in question were driven by the emotions of the match and, in the association’s view, did not constitute violations requiring punishment.
The Egyptian defense also cited other incidents that occurred during the match, emphasizing the need to consider the actions under investigation within the context of the events surrounding the encounter, and not in isolation from the match itself.
The EFA stressed that the actions of the Egyptian players were a product of on-field emotions, pointing to other incidents involving Argentine players during the match, which the Egyptian side believes underscore the need to evaluate all events within their full context.
The Egyptian association is awaiting a response from FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee regarding the submitted memorandum, in order to determine the final decision on the incidents in question and whether any sanctions will be imposed on Hossam Hassan, Ibrahim Hassan, or Mostafa Zico.
This comes as part of the legal defense of its national team players, after FIFA requested clarifications regarding certain incidents that occurred during the Egypt-Argentina match.
The EFA then submitted a comprehensive response supported by documents and legal arguments.
