Abu Ismail campaign manager calls Sharia opponents ‘unbelievers’

Salafi Sheikh Hazem Salah Abu Ismail’s campaign manager Sheikh Gamal Saber said Tuesday that the people who oppose the application of the Islamic Sharia are unbelievers.

Saber quoted the Quran verse that says: "And whosoever does not judge by what God has revealed, such are the unbelievers."

The campaign is made up of supporters of Abu Ismail, who was disqualified from the presidential race. Saber stressed that the constitution should include an article that states Sharia is the main source of legislation.

Saber said in a telephone call with the 90 Minutes talk show on Mehwar Channel Tuesday evening: "Mentioning 'Islamic principles' in the constitution is loose. Respectable constitutions must be clear, as everyone must be able to directly understand the articles. We want them to say Islamic Sharia is the main source of legislation.

"People who say they do not want the laws of Islam to be the source of legislation, what do you want as a source then? Follow the Word of God."

This comes after a number of Islamists objected to the wording of Article 2 of the draft constitution saying the principles of Islamic Sharia should be "the source" not the "main source of legislation."
