Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit lauded mediation efforts exerted by Egypt, Qatar and the United States to reach a “full and complete” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensure delivery of aid to the enclave and release of hostages and detainees.
In press statements on Tuesday, Abul Gheit stressed the necessity of Israel’s response to US President Joe Biden’s three-phase proposal aimed at ending the blatant Israeli aggression on the Palestinian civilians, allowing the entry of sustained humanitarian aid to the Strip and reconstructing what had been destroyed by the Israeli war machine.
It is necessary to end the humanitarian catastrophe committed by the Israeli forces, ensure the complete withdrawal of the troops from the Gaza Strip and the return of the displaced Palestinians to their areas, before the launch of a reconstruction process, Abul Gheit said.
This should take place within the framework of a comprehensive plan to implement the two-state solution based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and as per a specific timetable and binding guarantees, he made it clear, the AL chief stressed.
