Circulation figures for independent daily Al-Dostour have fallen by 35 percent since a conflict erupted earlier this month between the newspaper's management and its reporters, which prompted the latter to go on strike.
The printing of Al-Dostour has repeatedly been delayed since the onset of the crisis, while the daily number of copies printed has been reduced to 26,000.
Former chief editor Ibrahim Eissa, who was ousted by the paper's new owner, had succeeded in raising daily circulation rates to 45,000, while the number of pages was increased to 20.
“Now I receive only 2000 copies a day,” said Cairo newspaper vendor Hani Ramadan. “In Eissa's time, I would sell 3700 copies daily.”
According to circulation rating companies, the paper has now fallen to eighth place in terms of circulation out of nine major Egyptian dailies.
