Al Jazeera correspondent, 462 others remanded into custody for 45 days

On Wednesday, Cairo Criminal Court renewed the detention of Al Jazeera correspondent Abdallah Al-Shami and 462 others for 45 days.

The defendants are charged with using force and violence against the police, preventing authorities from exercising their duty, possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition, destroying public property, disrupting transportation and setting fire to the Rabaa al-Adaweya mosque during the dispersal of the Brotherhood sit-in on 14 August of last year.

Critics say the charges are politically motivated.
