Minister of Antiquities Mohamed Ibrahim said that 74 of 1,471 artifacts in the Islamic Art Museum were destroyed in the Cairo Security Directorate bombing.
Ibrahim added at a press conference with a UNESCO delegation on Friday that the damage includes 10 porcelain pieces, 18 manuscripts, 11 old weapons and 16 textile artifacts.
He also said that the UNESCO delegation is examining the losses in order to determine how it can help in the restoration efforts.
“USAID is donating LE1 million for that purpose,” he said.
The Islamic Art Museum is located in the vicinity of the Cairo Security Directorate. It was severely damaged after a car bomb targeted the police facility on the eve of the third anniversary of the 25 January revolution.
