Any respiratory symptoms should be dealt with as coronavirus: Egyptian official

Citizens should now deal with any respiratory symptoms as coronavirus until proven otherwise, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said during a telephone interview with the “Masr al-Gedida” program on Monday evening.

Abdel Ghaffar referred to a statement from the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides saying the virus was not over yet and is still mutating, causing a large number of infections.

Kyriakides said on Monday that the European Union must start preparing for the new waves of coronavirus that will come by the fall and winter, in light of the increase in infection rates in European countries again.

Abdel Ghaffar called for the need to implement the necessary measures to confront the virus, stressing that the government is ready for all scenarios and waves until the situation improves.

Coronavirus cases are on the rise again the Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, Mohamed Awad Tag Eddin, said on Thursday.

The symptoms of the current coronavirus mutant are simple and similar to colds, he added.

Most cases of infection with the virus and its variants range between mild and moderate at about 90 percent or 95 percent of the total infections, according to Tag Eddin.

Only five percent or eight percent of cases need hospitalization, he explained.

The average number of deaths from the coronavirus in Egypt is between four and five cases per day, Acting Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, said in a statement on the official page of the ministry, last week, adding that the cases infected with the virus and are isolated do not need more than six days of home isolation before recovering.

Egypt started giving the fourth booster dose to those who got the three doses without the need for prior reservation to receive the vaccine, he added.
