Suez Criminal Court sentenced on Wednesday two Muslim Brotherhood members to two years in prison and fined each LE2,000. Seven others were sentenced in absentia to five years in jail and fined LE 5,000 each.

All defendants faced charges of attempting murder and breaking the protest law.

The incidents go back to 24 January 2014, when a group of Muslim Brotherhood members clashed with citizens on al-Geish and Al-Madina Al-Monawara streets. Vehicles and store facades were smashed during the clashes.
