Cabinet: 54 injured in Friday protests

Fifty-four people were injured in protests across the country as supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsy called for fresh demonstrations condemning the military's removal of the former leader last month, according to a statement by the Egyptian Cabinet citing reports by the Health Ministry.

Among the injured were 27 in Cairo, 25 in Gharbiya and two in Daqahlia, the statement said.

The National Alliance in Support of Legitimacy had called for protests under the slogan "Friday of Martyrs," a week after army and police forces dispersed sit-ins in Cairo demanding Morsy's reinstatement, leaving hundreds dead.
