Center discovers warehouse full of artifacts: antiquities minister

Antiquities Minister Mamdouh el-Damati said the Egyptian-French Center for the Study of the Temples of Karnak discovered a warehouse including a number of artifacts dating back to the Late era.

In 2015, the center completed the restoration work of the massive stone blocks of the ceiling of King Thutmose III's cabin in the Open Museum of Karnak, he added.

The center works in accordance to a specific schedule. In 2015, the center concluded the examination of the Open Museum and almost completed restoration work in the northern warehouses for King Thutmose III's temple.

The minister added that writings on the Temple of Karnak have been documented through a database of images.

General manager of the Egyptian-French center Hesham Ellaithy said that in 2015 the 3,000 texts on the walls of the temples of Karnak were electronically recorded, in the framework of the preparation of an electronic version of all the hieroglyphic texts of Karnak temples which started in 2013.

Ellaithy said the ministry will publish Cahier de Karnak 15, which includes the achievements in detail of the projects carried out at the temples of Karnak for 2015.
