Chief prosecutor in Aswan to follow up on investigations in recent violence

Chief prosecutor, Hisham Barakat, headed to Aswan on Tuesday to follow up on the progress of the investigations in the violence that led to the death of 25 villagers and the injury of dozens.

Bloody clashes between villagers from Daboud and Beni Helal reportedly flared after abusive graffiti against each village was spray painted on the walls of a school.

Mahmoud Aboul Nasr, Minister of Education, said on Tuesday that the closure of 80 schools in Aswan for the fourth day in a row was due to violence.

"If calm is restored, schools will be reopened on Saturday," he added.

He also said that senior teachers would head to Aswan after the crisis to make up for the lessons students have missed and make sure their studies are not affected.
