Climate change conference calls for changing to green economy

Cancun–The United Nations Climate Change Conference, currently being held in Mexico, urged countries on Monday to move toward a green economy, or clean organic agriculture, to reduce consumption of water, chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

The conference called for the use of modern agricultural techniques, saying a green economy will increase global competition in production.

On Wednesday, water and environment ministers will meet to discuss solutions to disputes among developed and developing countries regarding extending the Kyoto Protocol for a second term to combat global warming.

Ministers will also discuss mechanisms to help developing countries use renewable energy in all economic sectors in these countries.

Participating countries will adopt measures facilities to help both the public and private sectors expand the application of organic agriculture, and hence reduce thermal emissions causing climate change in upcoming decades.
