Coptic pope flies to US for heart, kidney exams

Pope Shenouda III on Wednesday flew to the US on a two-week therapeutic trip for heart and kidney exams.

A church source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the pope will undergo routine health checkups at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Doctors will also check his leg, which was operated on in 2008.

The pope’s three secretariesBishops Boutros, Youanis and Armia and his physician, Maher Assad, are accompanying him on the trip.

The pope will cast his vote for the parliamentary elections at the Egyptian Embassy in Washington if he doesn't return to Egypt before 28 November.

On Monday, Shenouda celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordainment as pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
