COVID-19 in Egypt: 2,145 new cases, 59 deaths reported on Saturday

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population on Saturday reported 2,145 new coronavirus cases, 59 deaths, and 1,232 recoveries.

A total of 452,821 cases have been reported in Egypt, with 23,292 deaths and 385,390 recoveries.

The Ministry of Health and Population issued an urgent publication on January 26, due to surging coronavirus cases in Egypt.

The statement instructed that all of its hospitals in Cairo to postpone any non-emergency medical operations for two weeks: as long as it does not put the health of the patient at risk due to the high occupancy of intensive care units in most governorates at over 70 percent capacity.

The Ministry of Health instructed turning many hospitals into coronavirus isolation hospitals with its full capacity, and to increase the number of beds in the internal departments and intensive care units.

This will also help designate a place for patients with coronavirus to 50 percent of the total number of beds.

The Head of the Scientific Committee to Combat Coronavirus at Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population Hossam Hosni said earlier in February that the current wave of COVID-19 will crash by the end of February, coinciding with the start of a decline in the rates of infections and deaths from the virus and all its variants.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced last week that 37,190,384 citizens have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, 25,928,000 received the second dose, and 618,761 citizens received the third dose.

A Health Ministry statement said that the total doses that have been distributed to citizens is 63,737,501 so far.

Egypt authorities seek to reach 70 percent vaccination of the population before the middle of this year in order to return to normalcy

Booster shots began to be administered on December 21 in Egypt.

Egypt was able in a short time to provide all coronavirus vaccines, including Sinovac, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Sputnik, Johnson & Johnson, Pfize, and Moderna, as part of the state’s plan to diversify and expand the provision of coronavirus vaccines.

The Ministry of Health and Population called on citizens to register on the ministry’s website to receive the vaccine, stressing that the state spares no effort in providing vaccines to citizens for free, through permanent cooperation with international organizations and bodies.
