Egypt breaks Guinness World Record for most blood donations in a 12-hour period

Egypt has officially entered the Guinness World Records after successfully registering the largest number of blood donors within a 12-hour period across multiple locations nationwide, the Ministry of Health and Population announced.

The record-breaking national campaign, spearheaded by the Ministry’s Central Administration for Blood Operations, was launched in tandem with World Blood Donor Day. Within a 12-hour window, the initiative successfully registered over 15,000 citizens to donate blood, a feat officially verified and certified by Guinness World Records.

Boosting strategic reserves and public awareness

Health officials emphasized that this milestone is a direct reflection of state efforts to instill a culture of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation across the country.

Beyond the global accolade, the massive turnout significantly bolsters Egypt’s safe strategic inventory of blood and its derivatives—a critical component in saving lives and supporting the broader national healthcare infrastructure.

The ministry credited the historic achievement to a seamless, collaborative effort involving regional healthcare directorates, blood banks, and dedicated medical and administrative teams across all governorates.

Furthermore, officials lauded the widespread participation of Egyptian citizens, noting that the turnout underscores a deep-rooted social awareness of blood donation as a vital humanitarian duty.

A growing track record in healthcare

This global recognition marks yet another milestone in the Egyptian state’s ongoing overhaul and development of its healthcare sector.

According to the ministry, the campaign’s success underscores Egypt’s robust capacity to mobilize, organize, and execute large-scale national health initiatives that meet stringent international standards while delivering tangible humanitarian impact.
