Defendants acquitted of charges of killing Suez protesters during 25 January revolution

The Suez Criminal Court on Thursday acquitted all 14 defendants in the case on the killing of protesters in Suez during the 25 January revolution.
 
Major General Mohamed Abdel Hady, former Suez security chief, Colonel Hesham Hussein, Brigadier General Alaa Eddin Abdallah, the leader of Central Security Forces in Suez, and Central Security Officers Ismail Hashem, Mohamed Azer, Mohamed Saber Abdel Baqy, Mohamed Adel Abdel Latif, Marwan Tawfiq and policemen Ahmed Abdallah and Qandil Ahmed Hassan as well as businessmen Ibrahim Farag and his three sons faced charges of killing and injuring protesters.
 
Several police officers who were implicated in similar cases have been acquitted before, sparking accusations to prosecutors that they have failed to collect sufficient evidence to indict them.
 
Former President Hosni Mubarak and former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly are being retried for the killing of protesters during the 25 January revolution. Both had received life sentences.
