Delegate: EU concerned about terrorism in Egypt

James Moran, EU ambassador to Cairo, expressed concern about terrorism in Egypt, especially in Sinai.

"The situation in Sinai is very worrying and we support Egypt's efforts in the fight against terrorism," Moran said.

Moran called in an interview with MBC Masr Channel on Wednesday evening on the Egyptian authorities to achieve a balance between the fight against terrorism and the preservation of the rights and freedoms stated in the Constitution, describing the Constitution as the best in Egypt's modern history.

Moran pointed out that it was difficult to achieve a balance between the maintenance of security and respect for human rights and freedoms.

Moran said what happened on 30 June was not a coup, but an immense popular revolution caused by the policies of the former regime.

Moran denied that the European Union had any concern about the candidacy of Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the presidential elections, saying : "We do not have any concern about his candidacy and have no right to comment on this matter."
