Doctors to go on strike Tuesday

The Doctors Syndicate said it would organize a strike at all hospitals nationwide on Tuesday because the government has ignored its demands.

The doctors demand better salaries and working conditions. They also request that the government allocate 15 percent of the state budget to health care.

On Monday, the syndicate staged a vigil before the attorney general’s office to demand the removal of Health Minister Ashraf Hatem and other ministry leaders for allegations of corruption.

Assistant Health Minister Adel Adawy said the government agreed to most demands. “They have no reason to strike,” he said.
