Doctors’ Syndicate calls for protests over doctor meningitis death

The Doctors' Syndicate called on doctors to organize protests in front of hospitals, Saturday, due to the death of Doctor Dalia Mehrez from meningitis in Ismalia.

Mehrez came down with the disease last week from a patient while working in Ismalia University Hospital.

The final report prepared by the hospital, where Mehrez received treatment, showed that the doctor died of a purulent meningitis infection, the Health Ministry announced last week, backtracking on an earlier statement that attributed the doctor's death to an accident.

The protests will call on the Health Ministry to apply standards of infection control in hospitals, the syndicate said in a statement Friday.

Another protest will be organized in front of the headquarters of the syndicate's headquarters, next Saturday, it added.

The statement called on the ministry to consider Mehrez's death a work injury and grant her family a full pension and compensation for her death.
