Doctors Syndicate relief committee to become independent

The Doctors Syndicate is examining the possibility of transforming its humanitarian relief committee into an independent international organization. The organization would be funded by public donations and have a 15-member board of trustees taken from different organziations.

The syndicate's treasurer, Essam al-Erian, who is also a prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that turning the humanitarian relief committee into an independent organization would allow it to carry out more diverse activities and services. The organization would work in the humanitarian field without discrimination on the basis of religion, race or color, Erian said.

He added that several businessmen inside and outside Egypt has already expressed a readiness to finance the organization.

The organziation’s board of trustees could be chosen from among members of syndicates, media professionals and journalists, he added, saying that it would have its own headquarters.
