Egypt and 9 other countries condemn appointment of Israel’s first ambassador to Somaliland

The foreign ministers of Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Turkey, and Indonesia strongly condemned Israel’s announcement that it was appointing a diplomatic envoy to the self-proclaimed Somaliland.

The move was seen as a blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a joint statement, the ministers affirmed their complete rejection of any unilateral actions that infringe upon the unity or sovereignty of states. They emphasized their unwavering support for Somalia’s unity and for the legitimate institutions of the Somali state to serve as its sole representatives.

The ministers also stressed that such actions constitute a clear violation of the principles of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.

They further asserted that these actions represent a dangerous precedent that could undermine stability in the Horn of Africa, negatively impacting regional peace and security in general.
