Egypt executes notorious sectarian murderer

Mohamed Ahmed Hussein, known as al-Kammouny, was executed on Monday. He was sentenced to death for igniting sectarian violence after opening fire on six Coptic Christians and a Muslim in January last year.

Observers considered the incident, which took place in the southern Egyptian city of Naga Hammadi in Qena Governorate, the most notorious case of sectarian violence in recent years.

The execution coincides with Sunday’s clashes between mostly Coptic demonstrators and military forces, killing 25 people and injuring 322 others.
