Egypt to grant Gaza flotilla entry to Arish

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Hossam Zaky said Egypt is seeking to contact organizers of Artery of Life 5–a marine aid convoy bound for the Gaza Strip–to inform them the flotilla will be permitted entry to the Arish seaport on Sinai's northern coast.

The convoy is scheduled to set sail from the Syrian port of Al-Ladhiqiya.

Zaky, meanwhile, stressed that Egypt maintains its stance towards George Galloway, a British parliamentarian who previously led the Artery of Life 3 in January. Security authorities blocked the Briton's entry into Egypt weeks ago.

Galloway has criticized Egyptian authorities for impeding the flow of aid to Gaza.

On 31 May, the Israeli navy killed nine Turkish activists on board Gaza Freedom, another Gaza-bound aid flotilla. The deaths precipitated deterioration in Israeli-Turkish relations and provoked worldwide outrage.
