Egypt to import seed potatoes from US to combat shortages

The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture approved importing seed potatoes from the US to meet the needs of potato farmers as well as enable itself to face future shortages.

The move reflects the state’s plans to expand its role in potato production.

"We want to import seed potato from various sources, not only one source," said head of Egyptian agriculture quarantine, Ali Soliman.

Through the move, the Agriculture Ministry aims to promote the interests of Egyptian farmers as well as activate agricultural cooperation with other countries possessing seed potato production expertise.
