The Egyptian Interior Ministry conducted a wide-ranging reshuffle of several high-ranking security officials, encompassing various security directorates and police sectors.
This comes as part of a redistribution of leadership and its overall effort to strengthen the country’s security apparatus.
The reshuffle included the appointment of several major generals to key security directorates, including Hatem Hassan as head of Giza Security Directorate, Hatem al-Haddad as head of Alexandria Security Directorate, Ashraf Abdel-Malik for Sohag, Ahmed Ezzat for Minya, Walid al-Shabrawy for Qalyubiya, and Sherif Abdel-Mawgoud for Fayoum.
The reshuffle also included changes in several important security sectors.
Ahmed Khalaf was appointed Director of the General Directorate of Tourist Police, while Alaa Fathy assumed the position of Director of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Giza.
The reshuffle also saw the renewal of confidence in Alaa Bashandy as Director of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Cairo, in addition to the appointment of Hany Shaarawy as Deputy head of Giza Security Directorate.
Annual reshuffling
The annual reshuffle comes as part of Interior Ministry’s policy to redistribute leadership positions according to the requirements of security work, leveraging accumulated experience, and promoting leaders with the competence and ability to deal with various security challenges and changes.
It aims to enhance security performance in security directorates and various sectors, raise efficiency and responsiveness rates, and support efforts to combat crime and maintain order per the nature of each location and its security needs.
This reshuffling is one of the mechanisms adopted by Interior Ministry to develop the police work system by balancing leadership experience with the introduction of new personnel to positions of responsibility, thus ensuring the continued improvement of performance and the strengthening of security and stability in all governorates.
