Egypt’s former FM starts as Arab League chief on July 1

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the former foreign minister of Egypt, will assume office as the eighth Secretary General of the Arab League on July 1, according to an Arab League source.

Aboul Gheit's first official engagement will be a meeting with the league's secretariat senior officials on Sunday, the source added.

The Arab League's council elected Aboul Gheit for a five-year tenure in its last meeting, replacing Nabil al-Araby.
