Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Alaa Moussa reaffirmed Cairo’s steadfast support for any path leading to a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, emphasizing Egypt’s active efforts to end Israeli attacks and enable the Lebanese state to assert full control over its lands.
Moussa made the statements on Wednesday following a meeting with Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri at Ain El-Tineh. He noted that discussions focused on stopping Israeli assaults, empowering state authority, and assessing regional developments impacting Lebanon.
The ambassador stated that he briefed Berri on “the latest developments and Cairo’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and facilitate a return to the negotiating table regarding the situation between the United States and Iran.”
He added that Speaker Berri reiterated several critical priorities, namely “an immediate and complete halt to Israeli attacks on Lebanon, full withdrawal from all Lebanese territories, the return of displaced persons, and the launch of reconstruction efforts.”
“Egypt’s position remains firm and unambiguous: we support any pathway that ultimately leads to a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, the return of our displaced brothers and sisters to their towns and villages, and the commencement of rebuilding under a clear timetable,” Moussa said, underscoring Cairo’s full backing for initiatives aimed at achieving these goals.
Highlighting recent progress, the ambassador pointed out that operations began in designated “pilot zones” the previous day. He expressed hope that this step would expand to other areas to pave the way for a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese soil, stressing that success hinges on the commitment of all parties and providing the necessary support and resources to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).
Moussa further emphasized the importance of empowering the Lebanese army to fulfill its mandate, stating that Egypt supports hosting an international conference to back the LAF. He noted that Cairo had hosted a preparatory conference for this purpose earlier this year and expressed optimism that remaining obstacles to holding the main conference would be resolved.
He concluded by noting that he updated the Lebanese Parliament Speaker on Cairo’s latest diplomatic moves to defuse regional tensions, including efforts aimed at reviving negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
