Egypt supports investigations into crimes committed in Gaza: Foreign Ministry

Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu-Zeid affirmed on Saturday that Egypt fully backs any country’s investigations into the violations committed in Gaza.

During a telephone interview with Ahmed Moussa’s TV show “Ala Massoulity” (By My Responsibility), he added that South Africa going to the International Court of Justice to prosecute Israel is fully legal.

Abu-Zeid said that the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs requested more than once that Israel’s violations against the people of Gaza be investigated.

The ICJ is considering whether to determine initial jurisdiction or not and decide on interim measures on the case presented, he said.

“We are awaiting the court’s decision regarding precautionary measures aimed at protecting the Palestinians, and South Africa has called for an end to hostilities against the Palestinian people and the protection of civilians.”

The spokesperson also responded to Israel’s claims that Egypt is responsible for the Rafah crossing’s closures, stressing that the crossing has been always open since the beginning of the crisis.

Egypt is making great efforts to bring in aid, he stressed, while Israel is the one obstructing the entry of medical and humanitarian aid into Gaza through various methods.
