Egypt to include ballots in Braille for upcoming presidential elections

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities in Egypt announced the launch of ballots designed in Braille, to provide the opportunity for visually impaired and blind people to participate in the upcoming presidential elections.

This was circulated to all electoral committees and headquarters with the aim of removing all obstacles to the visually impaired in exercising their constitutional rights, General Supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, Iman Karim said.

This is not a new experiment as ballots were designed in Braille in previous elections, but to a more limited extent, Karim pointed out.

The Egyptian presidential elections will be held outside Egypt on December 1-3 and inside Egypt on December 10-12, the head of the National Elections Authority Walid Hamza announced during the National Elections Authority’s press conference on Monday.

The National Elections Authority announced the schedule for holding presidential elections inside and outside Egypt.

In the event of a runoff, the elections will be held from January 5-7 outside Egypt and from January 8-10 inside Egypt, Hamza explained.
