Egypt to see notable drop in temperatures and rainfall for Sunday

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) forecasts a significant drop in temperatures, with mild conditions during the day across most regions, turning cool to cold during the night and early morning hours.

The EMA expects a gradual decline in temperatures to continue until Thursday, November 12, accompanied by the formation of mist and a chance of rain in various areas.

Expected temperatures:

  • Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt: High 24C – Low 16C
  • Northern Coasts: High 23C – Low 17C
  • Northern Upper Egypt: High 25C – Low 15C
  • Southern Upper Egypt: High 28C – Low 17C
  • Sharm El-Sheikh: High 26C – Low 20C

Weather Warnings

The EMA has issued a warning regarding the formation of occasionally dense water mist between four am and nine am.

This is expected to affect roads leading to and from the northern part of the country, extending to Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt, potentially reducing horizontal visibility.

There is also a 30 percent chance of light to moderate rainfall – occurring intermittently – across parts of the northern coast and the northern Lower Egypt, with a particular focus on northern Sinai.

Additionally, there is a lower probability 20 percent of light rain in parts of the southern Lower Egypt, the Suez Canal cities, and the Gulf of Suez; this may potentially extend to Greater Cairo and the Red Sea Governorate.

Disruption to Maritime Navigation

The Mediterranean coast (including Matrouh, Al-Alamein, Alexandria, Beheira, Kafr el-Sheikh, and Damietta) is experiencing disruptions to maritime navigation.

Wind speeds will reach 40–50 km/h, with wave heights between two and three meters. Winds will also pick up periodically across most regions, making the drop in temperatures feel more pronounced.

Advice to Citizens

Given the cold nighttime conditions and morning mist, the EMA advised citizens to wear relatively warm clothing, especially late at night and early in the morning.

Motorists should exercise caution when driving on roads affected by mist, and the public is advised to stay updated with the latest bulletins issued by the EMA.
