A ten-year old Egyptian child saved the life of an Austrian old lady after a drunken man pushed her in front of a subway train in the city of Vienna.
The platform at Land Strasse station where the incident occurred is close to two meters above the rails. The impact of the fall rendered the old lady unable to move or to escape the approaching train.
Other passengers standing on the station platform were stunned by the drunken man's action and unable to move to help the old lady until the child, Abdel Rahman Gamea, came to the rescue.
Gamea rushed to the emergency handle, which stops the train in case of danger, and pulled it down with his whole body, as he did not have the sufficient strength as a young child to pull the handle with one hand.
Gamea called the police from his cell phone to report the attacker and then rushed to help a young man struggling with the offender, trying to hold him on the ground until the police arrived.
The Egyptian child told state-run news agency MENA that he stopped the train in order to save the lady, who was taken to the nearest hospital. He was happy that he was able to help the lady.
He added that he hit the drunken man with his shoe on the face to help the young man who was trying to restrain him. "When the police arrived, they thanked me and asked me to wait for a reward, but I left to go to the mosque where I receive Arabic language lessons every weekend."
