Egyptian-Kenyan agricultural dams agreement signed in Nairobi

Egyptian Agriculture, Irrigation and Supply ministries have signed an agreement with the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, regarding technical support for Kenya in establishing small-size, rainwater-saving dams for agricultural purposes.

Water and Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazy, before heading to Sudan in order to sign the Renaissance Dam agreement with Sudan and Ethiopia, said that the arrangement provides for technical support in digging groundwater wells, training and capacity building, with a donation of US$5.5 million. He added that Egypt has a series of joint projects that will be carried out in collaboration with the Nile Basin countries.

Agriculture Minister Salah Helal has signed a similar agreement with Kenya, regarding a project establishing a model farm, specialized in the marketing of agriculture, livestock and fish products.

Supply Minister Khaled Hanafy, in a meeting with his Kenyan counterpart, discussed bilateral trade issues, such as the export of brown sugar and Food Industries Holding Company products to Kenya and meat imports to Egypt.
