Egypt’s 2026 electricity prices: The full list of household and commercial rates after latest updates

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced the implementation of a 20 percent increase on electricity consumption for certain commercial activities, as part of enforcing operating hours during daylight saving time.

The Prime Minister explained that the increase targets commercial shops, restaurants, and cafes that continue to operate past the official closing times mandated by daylight saving regulations.

He emphasized that billing for these establishments will be calculated according to the new tariff.

Who is impacted by the 20 percent price increase?

According to the government’s decree, the increase applies exclusively to commercial activities—specifically restaurants and cafes—that remain open after official closing hours during daylight saving time.

Meanwhile, businesses that comply with the official closing times will continue to be billed under the standard rates.

2026 household electricity tariffs

The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy kept the prices for most residential consumption tiers unchanged, introducing a 16 percent increase only to the seventh tier.

The residential rates are as follows:

  • First Tier (One to 50 kWh): 68 Piasters
  • Second Tier (51 to 100 kWh): 78 Piasters
  • Third Tier (101 to 200 kWh): 95 Piasters
  • Fourth Tier (201 to 350 kWh): LE 1.55
  • Fifth Tier (351 to 650 kWh): LE 1.95
  • Sixth Tier (651 to 1000 kWh): LE 2.10
  • Seventh Tier (More than 1000 kWh): Increased from LE 2.23 to LE 2.58 per kWh.

2026 commercial electricity tariffs

The electricity rates for standard commercial activities are structured as follows:

  • Up to 100 kWh: 162 Piasters per kWh
  • Up to 250 kWh: 216 Piasters per kWh
  • Up to 600 kWh: 264 Piasters per kWh
  • Up to 1000 kWh: 274 Piasters per kWh
  • More than 1000 kWh: 279 Piasters per kWh

The enforcement of the new surcharge on non-compliant businesses is part of broader measures to regulate operating hours during the summer season.

The current electricity tariffs will remain unchanged for all other tiers and categories in accordance with previously announced decisions.
