Mohamed ElBaradei, an Egyptian presidential candidate, on Saturday criticized the performance of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) in the transitional period.
In his first statement as a presidential candidate, ElBaradei said the SCAF is issuing laws without discussing them with citizens or political powers.
He added that addressing the current lack of security and confusion over how to run the country would help the economy. He also said that clarity of vision combined with agreement between the army and the people on how to steer the country are key to restoring stability.
Genuine and fruitful national dialogue, he added, requires first that political powers consult each other and sort out the most pressing issues.
ElBaradei said he is surprised that the SCAF announced new laws on political rights and political parties without putting them to discussion. He blamed the SCAF's neglect in this regard as responsible for the laws' deficiencies.
"The street wants a dialogue that allows for genuine participation and lights the way for Egypt's political future."
