Elections update: Violence in Mansoura and closed polling stations

Violence erupted at Mansoura in front of al-Nasseriya school when thugs, using chains and other so-called "white weapons," clashed with supporters of a Muslim Brotherhood (MB) candidate.

Meanwhile, in Port Said, security forces arrested MB candidate and current MP Akram al-Shaaer along with a number of his supporters and representatives of other MB candidates. Al-Shaeer has since been released.

In Giza, 30 polling stations were not opened on time, according to Mohamed Saeed, Brotherhood spokesman for the Dokki and Agouza area.

"This is the second time I came to the polling station and found it closed. We came here at 7:45AM but the doors were closed and we were
told that the heads of the polling station hadn't arrived on time," said Amal Abdel Kerim, women's quota candidate for the Brotherhood in Dokki.

Meanwhile, Ikhwanonline.com, the main Muslim Brotherhood website, was down this morning, as well as Shahed2010, the main Brotherhood online elections monitor.
