Eleven drown off the shores of Alexandria during Eid holiday

Eleven individuals have been reported drowned at four beaches on the north coast during the national holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

Three students were reported dead after having drowned at Hanoville coast, west of Alexandria. Dekheila police station confirmed that the victims were a 17-year old and an 18-year old from Beheira province, and a 17-year old from Cairo.

Relatives of the victims said the students had drowned while swimming, and that they considered nothing suspicious about the incident. 

Montaza police station was notified about the death of a 64-year old at al-Maamoura coast, east of Alexandria. The son of the victim, who was greengrocer from Gharbiya province, reported that his father drowned while swimming and the family would not be making inquiries into responsibility for the death. The body was taken to a local morgue.

Six others, aged between 17 and 27 years old, were found dead at Nakheel beach. Amriya police station reported that the victims had been from Cairo, Giza, Menoufia and Gharbiya.

Off the coast of Abu Qir, a 20-year old was also reported to have drowned, and no accusations have been made by the family over the responsibility for the fatality.
