Families of Egyptians imprisoned in Saudi Arabia stage protests

The families of Egyptians imprisoned in Saudi Arabia staged protests on Sunday outside the Saudi Embassy in Cairo. They blamed the Egyptian Foreign Ministry for its passive position, and called on the military council to intervene for the release of their relatives.

The protesters claim their relatives have been imprisoned for years without trial or conviction of any crime, which they see as a humiliation to Egyptians and a violation of international law.

They said that six months ago they handed the embassy a petition demanding that the king release the prisoners, but that the petition was not passed on.

The protesters have been staging vigils before the embassy for eight months.
