FEI calls for 20% customs on imported sugar

The Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) has called on the Finance Ministry to impose a 20 percent custom duty on imported raw sugar in order to protect local sugar cane and beetroot farmers.

FEI President Mohamed al-Suweidy said Egypt imports sugar worth US$1 billion, although local production can meet market needs.
