Finance Ministry says Saudi Arabia has yet to fulfill promises for assistance

The Finance Ministry said statements reported by several news agencies citing Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal saying his country is committed to granting Egypt US$3.75 billion are only "diplomatic declarations" that have not been implemented.

A senior official from the ministry told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the ministry did not receive assistance or checks from Saudi Arabia, aside from US$500 million that Saudi Arabia transferred to Egypt to finance the budget.

The money was transferred to the Finance Ministry's account at the Central Bank in May 2011.

He added that the government welcomes assistance from Arab countries as long as there are no conditions attached to it.

He added, however, that Arab countries have failed to grant Egypt the assistance they have pledged.
