First day of Islamic holy month Ramadan to start April 24 in Egypt

Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta announced that the first day of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan in the year 1441 AH will begin on Friday, April 24.

The announcement comes after various Sharia and scientific committees nationwide on Wednesday evening failed to sight the crescent moon that signals the start of the holy month.

The Grand Mufti of Egypt Shawky Allam said, “The Egyptian Dar al-Ifta sought the crescent moon of Ramadan after sunset on Wednesday, April 22 through the Sharia and scientific committees nationwide.”

But because of their having failed to sight the moon, Allam said, it is decided that Friday, April 24 will mark the first day of Ramadan in Egypt.
