FJP headquarters robbed in Aswan

Unidentified people on Monday stormed the Freedom and Justice Party headquarters in Aswan, which lies 100 meters away from the Aswan Security Directorate on the Corniche.

The assailants stole LE18,000 and a receiver set, security source told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Officials at the party’s headquarters were astounded Monday morning to find that items were stolen and others were scattered on the floor.

A police report was filed.

The building is located in a busy spot near the chamber of commerce in Aswan and behind a bank branch and a hotel.

The police are on the lookout for the culprits. Investigations suggest that the motivation for crime was theft.

The state-run daily Al-Akhbar cited the FJP secretary in Aswan, Mohamed Abdel Fatah, as saying that the attack was meant to carry a message to the party. Fatah said the incident is likely related to attacks on presidential hopeful Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh and MP Hassan al-Berins as well as the threats against MP Akram al-Shaer.

Fatah said it is a message from the counterrevolution and its figures, adding that his party is going ahead with its work regardless of these acts of violence.
